Bench Services

Three Kinds of Bench Work

Each service is scoped by the watch and the work it actually needs. We write down what we find before we begin, and you receive a condition note when we hand it back.

Why Horolume

What Happens on Our Bench

Written Condition Note

Every watch that comes in leaves with a document listing what we found, what we did, and what we left untouched. No verbal-only reports.

Magnification-Level Inspection

Components are assessed under 10× and 30× optics before any parts are touched. We note wear patterns you would not spot under normal light.

Grade-Correct Lubrication

Each friction point receives the oil viscosity the movement manufacturer specifies. One general-purpose oil on every pivot is not how we work.

Photographic Record

Movement servicing and restoration projects include before-and-after photographs. You can see the actual state of your calibre, not a stock image.

Water Resistance Re-Test

After quartz servicing, we test to the case maker's stated rating — not an estimate. If it does not pass, we tell you before you collect.

Agree Before We Proceed

For restoration work, no surface is touched until you have read the proposal and confirmed in writing. Scope changes are discussed, not assumed.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

What should I bring when I drop off my watch? +
The watch itself is enough. If you have the box or papers, we will note them, but they are not required. For vintage pieces, any prior service receipts are useful context, though we inspect independently regardless.
How long does each service take? +
Quartz care takes roughly 3–5 working days. Mechanical servicing typically runs 4–6 weeks, depending on whether parts are needed. Vintage case and dial restoration projects are scoped at 8–14 weeks. We confirm the expected bench window when we accept the piece.
Do you work on all watch brands? +
We work on most Swiss, Japanese, and European calibres — both mainstream and independent. For certain proprietary movements where manufacturer-specific tools are required, we will tell you at intake if the piece falls outside our scope.
What does the condition note include? +
It lists the parts we replaced, the tests we ran and their results, anything we observed but did not address, and the scope of our twelve-month workmanship coverage. It is a plain-language document, not a technical worksheet.
Can I request that original patina be kept? +
Yes, and we encourage it. For restoration work, you receive a written proposal before any surface is touched, and you decide exactly what is refinished and what is left as found. We will not polish away character without your explicit approval.
How do I pay and collect? +
Payment is settled on collection. We accept DuitNow transfers and cash at the workshop. For restoration projects, a 30% deposit is collected once the written proposal is accepted, with the balance on completion.
